Archiving a template hides it from the "new item" template picker so it can no longer be used for new content, while leaving all existing items based on it completely intact. Archiving a component works the same way: it can no longer be inserted into templates, but every template it's already part of keeps working exactly as before.
Archiving a template or component
- Open the Structure: Select Structure in the project navigation.
- Click the archive button on the template or component you wish to archive.
- In the dialogue, click the "Archive" button to confirm that you wish to archive the template or component.
What happens to existing items and templates?
Items already created from an archived template are unaffected. They can still be edited, viewed and moved through your workflow as normal. Templates that already have an archived component inserted keep displaying it exactly as before, archiving only prevents the component from being inserted into any new templates.
Good to know
Archiving is reversible. See Restoring a template or a component to bring one back.
