Permanently Deleting a Template or Component

Most of the time, archiving is all you need to retire a template or component you no longer want people creating from. Permanent deletion is a separate, stronger action for templates and components you're certain you'll never need again, for example, duplicates created by mistake or structures left over from an old project.

Before you delete

A template or component must be archived before it can be permanently deleted. This gives you a chance to catch anything still in active use before it's gone for good.

• Export the content if needed. Once the template or component is deleted, content items using the template or component could lose data if not automatically captured by version history. Use Export content as a CSV to save a backup.
• Check with your team. Make sure no one else is actively working on content items that use the templare or component.
• Only Owners and Administrators can delete templates or components.

Permanently deleting a templare or component

1. Open Team Settings by clicking your team name in the global bar.
2. Within the team menu select Recycle Bin.
3. Within the Recycle Bin, find your project. You cannot permanently delete a template or component in a recycled project. If you need to permanently delete a template or component in a recycled project without deleting the entire project, please restore your project.
4. Click the Manage Recycling button for your chosen project.
5. Within the Recycling Bin, select "Templates" or "Components" from the left-hand sidebar.
6. Find the template or component, and click the Permanently Delete button.
7. Within the dialogue, confirm you wish to permanently delete the template or component.

What happens to existing content?

Content items that were already built using the deleted template will be updated to have no template. Content entered into items using the deleted template may be captured by version history, however, you should always export a copy of your content in case of data loss.
